The Island

Three Hummock Island is a State Reserve with an area of approximately seventy square kilometres in Bass Strait. It is the second largest island in the Hunter Island Group which consists of thirteen islands, islets, and rocks located approximately 50 kms from mainland Tasmania.

The Homestead is located at Chimney Corner, at the western most point of the island. There are a multitude of protected coves and granite coastline with two long sandy beaches on diagonally opposite sides of the island – West and East Telegraph beaches. There are two airstrips and approximately 30km of internal tracks. Most of the island is untouched wilderness from beautiful granite shorelines, eucalypt forests, lagoons, and peaks. Wildlife abounds with Forester Kangaroos, pademelons, and Cape Barren Geese. With no carnivores, over 90 species of birds have been recorded. This is truly a nature lover's paradise, once visited never forgotten.
